Guideline Rubric

A panel of artists, educators, art lovers and environmental social workers will judge the UCEEF Nature and Me Challenge. Artwork will be evaluated on originality, quality, creativity and adherence to the theme. The judges will use the following Guideline Rubric to evaluate the artwork. Total score is 16, and the judges will consider the 4 dimension including Visual Impact, Interpretation and Creativity, Craftsmanship/Skill and Artist’s Statement. Each dimension has a maximum of 4 points.

Visual Impact

The unique organization of art elements, content, & execution create a striking & memorable work. It has the power to “wow” the viewer. The organization of art elements, content, and execution create cohesive work. The work has lasting impact on the viewer. The organization of art elements, content, and execution are addressed in the work. The work holds the viewer’s attention.

 

The organization of art elements, content, & execution are incompletely addressed in the work. There is little or no impact on the viewer.

Interpretation and Creativity

The artwork clearly demonstrates the artist’s relationship with nature in an exceptional and innovative way. Their concept is original and their use of fine, well-developed details helps to express the relationship in a manner that is well-crafted, complex, and compelling The artwork demonstrates the artist’s relationship with nature in a unique way. The use of details help to express the relationship in a manner that is well-crafted and convincing. The artwork demonstrates a limited understanding of the importance of nature. The use of some details begin to express the artist’s relationship with nature. While the artwork demonstrates good craftsmanship in some areas, the artwork is not evenly developed. The artwork lacks understanding of the importance of nature. The interpretation of the artist’s relationship with nature is not evident and does not demonstrate quality craftsmanship.

 

Craftsmanship/Skill

It demonstrates a mastery of skill and a clear understanding and application of specific medium qualities. The design is beautiful, unique, and complete. It demonstrates skill and some understanding of specific medium qualities. The design is pleasing and partially complete. It demonstrates partial skill and understanding of specific medium qualities. The design is fairly neat.

 

It lacks understanding of specific medium qualities. The design is a bit careless in the creation of the work.

Artist’s Statement

 

Criteria:

2. How does your work represent that relationship between nature and you?

3. How did you creatively

4. What realistic steps can you take to be more environmentally-friendly and sustainable?

 

The artist’s statement is 5-10 sentences in length and addresses the criteria in a manner that is clear, captivating, and articulate. It emphasizes the importance of the environment through their personal experiences. It uses standard English conventions (SEC) with a high level of competency, and invokes emotion and relatability in the reader.

 

The artist statement is 5-10 sentences in length and addresses the criteria in a manner that is articulate and uses standard English conventions (SEC) with a good level of competency. It talks about the importance of the environment through some experiences which the reader may relate to. The artist statement is 5-10 sentences in length and addresses some of the criteria in a manner that uses standard English conventions (SEC) with a limited level of competency. It mentions the importance of the environment generally. The artist statement is not 5-10 sentences in length and addresses the criteria in a very limited way. The use of standard English conventions (SEC) demonstrates a low level of competency and/or lacks the ability to capture the reader’s attention. It does not mention the importance of the environment
